How to Choose and Use Botanical Skincare Products

There are many reasons why so many people prefer to use botanical skincare products instead of chemically produced products. As with commercially produced chemical-based products, these natural products are made for general use as well as for specific problem areas.

Many people who use these herbal products do so with the hope of restoring damaged areas or with the desire to protect themselves from possible damage. But there are other benefits as well to using natural products and those include smoother skin as well as healthier skin through proper hydration.

When you are shopping for botanical skincare products, look for products that are 100% natural.

The ingredients list will tell you what is contained in the product, and reading the label should be your first step in the decision process. You will also want to look for any harmful or synthetic preservatives that might be contained in the product. All natural botanical skincare products will not use these ingredients in their preparations.

Many people do not know it but the skin is actually an organ. Just like your heart, liver, and brain, your skin, as an organ, must be kept healthy. Your skin is your first defense against toxins, infections, and pollutants. As you might imagine, it has a lot of work to do as we go through each and every day of life. As informed consumers, it is our responsibility to aid our skin rather than to impede its important work. This, perhaps more so than any other reason, is the critical difference between botanical skincare products and chemical-based products.

The simple truth is most commercially marketed products are filled with chemical substances.

Some of these chemical substances are harmless and can even be beneficial but many other chemicals are not so harmless and can cause problems, especially in those individuals with sensitive skin. Another simple truth is that some cosmetics contain chemical or mineral substances that can be dangerous to our health. It is not uncommon for some people to experience redness, rashes, irritation, and even allergic reactions while using these products.

Botanical skincare products, on the other hand, do not contain these dangerous substances. Instead they contain natural ingredients that help to restore and nourish your skin.

There are three important steps for daily use of botanical skincare products:

Cleanse your face and skin. Clean skin is important but you should avoid using products that contain harsh chemicals. These chemicals can actually strip away the nutrients of the skin and throw off the natural pH level that your flesh needs in order to maintain itself.

Rather than using these chemical-based soaps and cleansers you are better off using nothing more than warm water and a soft, cotton cloth.

Gently scrubbing your face with plain water will remove dead skin cells and dirt while the warmth from the water will open up your pores. Another option is to use an all-natural soap or cleanser that will not upset the pH level of your skin, especially on your face. Look for moisturizing oils such as olive, avocado, almond, or jojoba.

Toning your skin is the process that allows your skin to tighten and to close up the pores which aids in keeping dirt and bacteria out of them. It also helps to smooth your skin for a better appearance.

Many toning products contain alcohol. You should avoid these products because alcohol is very harsh on the flesh and can dry out skin very quickly. Alcohol will be listed in the ingredient list, and if you see it, you should bypass that product.

A much better strategy is to use botanical skincare waters (known as hydrosols). These include lavender and rose water as well as some fruit vinegars such as apple cider vinegar. These are especially useful as facial toners.

Proper moisturizing can help to prevent early aging signs as well as help to reduce wrinkling. As with toning, you should avoid using products that contain alcohol or other chemicals. These substances can remove the important nutrients that your skin needs in order to remain healthy and vibrant.

Moisturize your skin. This is one of the most important steps that you take during your daily regime.

Instead use botanical skincare products that contain natural essential oils such as those found in almond, jojoba, olive, avocado, apricot, lavender, rosemary, carrot seed, and myrrh. Do keep in mind that because natural products are so gentle and good for your skin they are perfect for long-time use.
