For some individuals, the causes of dry skin could be due to dehydration (caused from lack of water consumption), hormonal changes, diabetes and thyroid disease. Living in the northeastern state of New York for all of my life, I have had to deal with the effects of the four seasons on my skin. Recently, the winter months have been the toughest for me. Instead you can use a liquid hand and body cleansing lotion derived from botanicals like aloe vera and green tea with added essential oils and vitamins. Additionally, natural herbs and exfoliation are also helpful in treating this condition. Generally, vitamins A, C, and E are added to skin care formulas since they penetrate the dermis and repair any damage caused by the sun, wind and cold temperatures. You may have read about jojoba oil and its use in cleansing the scalp of sebum. It, also along with hemp oil, is added to moisturizers since they both lubricate the skin.

Essential oils, like oil of lavender, are beneficial in treating skin eruptions. They have a beautiful fragrance and can also be used as a perfume. After cleansing your facial skin, you can apply an exfoliant such as glycolic acid in order to help eliminate dead skin cells. After showering, you should apply a body lotion which will replenish the natural oils lost due to the aging process. Many of us use household cleaners and may be exposed to chemicals on the job and protective gloves should be worn to protect our hands from these substances. Finally, apply sunscreens with UVA and UVB protection before leaving home in order to avoid dryness caused by the sun. Although there are various causes of dry skin, there are many natural remedies available to help you effectively treat this condition. By taking some precautionary steps and by following a comprehensive skin care program combined with proper diet, exercise and plenty of sleep, you will be able to improve your dry skin condition.
